Here to provide peace of mind for the future and to protect your assets for your loved ones.
Planning Ahead
Creating a Will
As a valued client of Meridian Financial Planning we are able to offer this Will Writing Service at no cost to you as it is a key part of your securing your financial situation.
You can if you wish make a donation to one of our chosen charities but there is no obligation to do so.
Wills are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Creating and updating your Will can help you to plan ahead for your family and loved ones. Your Will allows you to choose how your estate is divided upon your death. Intelligent planning can preserve capital from Inheritance Tax or Care Fees, and the use of Trusts can allow you to leave property to minors.
We work closely with our affinity partners at RedLake, who actively promote the highest standards within the Will writing profession. Speaking in plain English, they are happy to offer home appointments as required. With Professional Indemnity Insurance, qualifications for Will writing and undertaking regular Continuous Professional Development, they are trusted partners whom regularly work with our clients.
Guidance
Types of Will
A Living Will deals with your wishes regarding any future medical care or treatments while you are alive. They are generally created in the event that you are unable to communicate your wishes at the time of treatment.
You should also create a Will to handle your estate and wishes upon your death, as a Living Will specifically addresses your wishes while you are alive.
A Living Will is often created alongside a Lasting Power of Attorney. A Lasting Power of Attorney passes the legal authority to deal with your financial affairs to people you have selected if you become unable to do so.
Mirror Will
Couples can choose to adopt a Mirror Will, whether they are married, unmarried or in a civil partnership. As the name suggests, Mirror Wills allow you:
- Appoint people you both trust to be the Executors to your estate
- Name the beneficiaries for specific possessions or gifts
- Name the residuary beneficiaries (who receive the remainder of your estate after all debts have been paid and all Beneficiaries of gifts have received their inheritance)
- Appoint Guardians for any children under the age of 18
- Notify of any specific wishes regarding charities, pets or funeral arrangements
Single Will
A Single Will applies only to one person. It offers the same options as a Mirror Will, but identifies the individual’s wishes only, which include:
- Appoint the Executors to your estate
- Name the beneficiaries for specific possessions or gifts
- Name the residuary beneficiaries (who receive the remainder of your estate after all debts have been paid and all Beneficiaries of gifts have received their inheritance)
- Appoint Guardians for any children under the age of 18
- Notify of any specific wishes regarding charities, pets or funeral arrangements
Trust Will
Trusts can offer increased protection of your property and possessions for loved ones. If you own a property, have significant savings, or wish to ensure that vulnerable people are cared for, a Trust can give you greater peace of mind.
Types of Trust Will include:
- Property Trust Will
- Flexible Life Interest Trust Will
- Discretionary Trust Will
- Disabled Discretionary Trust Will
Trust Wills can be written on their own or in combination if your circumstances require it.
